The Las Vegas SAG Conservatory presents:
JAMES ALBURGER & PENNY ABSHIRE
As a team, James Alburger and Penny Abshire have rapidly gained recognition as world-class voiceover and performance coaches. His best-selling book, The Art of Voice Acting, has established James as one of the top voiceover authors in the US. With a strong performing background; more than 25 years in recording studios and television as an engineer, producer, and director; recipient of 11 Emmy Awards; an award-winning voice talent; and more than a decade of teaching and performance coaching, James is truly an expert on both sides of the mic. His partner, Penny Abshire has been performing all her life as an actress and concert pianist. After entering the world of voiceover in her late forties, she has become an expert on producing voiceover demos that get bookings, and on the marketing of voiceover talent. Penny is also an award-winning copy writer and character voice actor. She is recipient of numerous Omni Intermedia, Silver Microphone, and Communicator Awards for copywriting and performance.
Through their San Diego and International Roadshow workshops, James and Penny have refined their Seven Core Elements of a Performance to a process that is powerfully simple, yet incredibly effective when applied to any performance: on-camera, stage, voiceover, business communication, or professional speaking. The Las Vegas SAG Conservatory presents:
Phil Valentine
Actor, Performance Coach, Producer, Director, Casting director
As a Las Vegas resident Phil will be talking about the importance of demo reels for Las Vegas actors. The industry is becoming more and more streamlined and the internet is becoming more and more a part of the audition process. Still Hollywood is bringing more L.A. actors to Las Vegas productions than ever before. It is time for Las Vegas actors to step up to the plate and get with the program so they too can be noticed.
The lack of actors demo reels in Las Vegas is putting a strain on the theatrical agencies here to get their people cast in L.A. productions so Phil will be here to urge Las Vegas actors to become part of the solution. He will discuss the importance, the format and the do's and don'ts of demo reels. The demo reels on his agencies website has already got L.A. directors to stand up and notice.
Chris Rogers
A member since 1995, Chris Rogers joined SAG in South Beach/Miami. He has appeared in commercials for practically every beer known to man, except Corona and Miller Lite (which he actually drinks). Most notable commercial was for BECK’S BEER that was shot by John Toll, multiple Academy Award winning Director of Photography.
In addition to his extensive commercial background, he has played leading roles in many independent films. Last year, he helped produce EXIT 38, $0.25M feature starring James Hong and Martin Kove. Lionsgate Entertainment is considering it for distribution at the end of May.
He has taken his skills as a performer in FRONT of the camera, he transferred them to BEHIND it.
His company, CHRMEDIA, is a video editing and motion graphics design firm who services clients primarily in the Gaming (Casinos) and Entertainment business.
Chris will talk about how to market youself as an actor, how to work with an editor/graphic designer, the things you need to do BEFORE involving another person. He will also discuss the registration process of iActor the new FREE SAG online casting directory. The more together/organized you are, the faster/cheaper the process will go. Time is money!

| Senate Bill 321 aka The Buzzell Bill Passes Unanimously. |
 |
Click here to view the bill
It is very important to write to the following list of Senators.
The more people that write letters, the more the Senators will listen and take this seriously. In return we will all have more work here in Las Vegas.
In case you were not listening to the committee on the internet, the GOOD NEWS is that the bill has just passed unanimously.
So, now, all letters need to be addressed to the entire body of 21 senators.
The efforts by all concerned really won the day and there were no questions posed by anybody. However, we really need to redouble the efforts to persuade the entire floor to support the bill. The Senate members will be tired and hassled by thousands of people pleading their cases and we need to fit in there somehow.
I would suggest that letters of thanks POUR IN to the tax committee members and urge them to keep up the fight for the industry on the floor. A lot of letters came in from SAG members in the last few days and I hope everyone can do what SAG has done.
Spread the word, and congratulations to all of you. And, Buzzell Films is the company who first brought this problem to my attention and would not let me have a moment's rest until I agreed to introduce the bill.
